Whangara (south) beach is seldom surfed because access is either via a very long walk from Pouawa or else a paddle down a creek. The best surf breaks begin at the tiny peak in the distance, close to the marker that defines the north limit of the marine reserve. I should have taken my camera further, because the view is deceptive and the waves were nicely overhead with easy to make barrels. Mostly lefts with a nice right off a small reef.
