Elle Muelle de Ecuasal Surf Stats

This picture shows the combination of swells directed at Elle Muelle de Ecuasal over a normal August and is based upon 2976 NWW3 model predictions since 2006 (values every 3 hours). The wave model does not forecast wind or surf right at the coastline so we have chosen the optimum grid node based on what we know about Elle Muelle de Ecuasal, and at Elle Muelle de Ecuasal the best grid node is 27 km away (17 miles). The rose diagram illustrates the distribution of swell sizes and directions, while the graph at the bottom shows the same thing without direction information. In both graphs, the area of any colour is proportional to how frequently that size swell occurs. The diagram suggests that the prevailing swell direction, shown by the biggest spokes, was SSW, whereas the the prevailing wind blows from the SW. Because the wave model grid is out to sea, sometimes a strong offshore wind blows largest waves away from Elle Muelle de Ecuasal and offshore. We combine these with the no surf category of the bar chart. To simplify things we don't show these in the rose graph.
