Whitley Bay in North East England is a fairly exposed beach break that has inconsistent surf. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing here. Offshore winds are from the southwest. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell angle is from the north northeast. Waves at the beach are both lefts and rights. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water. Rocks are a hazard.
