The Pit in Santa Barbara is a fairly exposed beach break that has reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the north northeast. Waves just as likely from local windswells as from distant groundswells and the ideal swell angle is from the southwest. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves. Best around high tide when the tide is rising. Sometimes crowded. Hazards include rips and rocks.
