Faaroa in Raiatea is an exposed reef break that has reasonably consistent surf. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. Works best in offshore winds from the southwest. Windswells and groundswells in equal measure and the best swell direction is from the southeast. A reef breaks right. It very rarely gets crowded here. Hazards include coral,urchin, rips, rocks,localism.
