Ditch Plains in Long Island NY is an exposed reef break that has fairly consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. Offshore winds are from the northwest. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the south southeast. Both left and right reef breaks. Often Crowded. Rocks are a hazard.

Ditch Plains is a great beach that breaks quite consistently (compared with most East Coast locations), I was lucky enough to hit it end of August last year right as a hurricane came up off the cost and there were double over head conditions with sunshine.

The life guards are a pain in the f&*ing ass unless your a local and know them. Of course it can get insanely crowded so get to the beach around 7am and surf to noon and have a good morning session with low crowds. It gets crazy mid day.

The grub at the health food store in town and herbs market are both better cheap-ish options then the Ditch Witch truck @ Ditch Plains (I just don't understand the fascination with that).

Also the parking is retarded, stay in a house that is walking distance. Or make sure where ever your staying has permits for here otherwise forget it (you will get ticketed.... a lot).

Beware of rocks and yuppies.
